This summer we complied a “SDSU/Summer 2017: Professional Pathways in Biology” professional development program which offered a series of workshops  covering various areas of professional development for a biology student, including “Scientific Writing” (presented by Dr.Linn Bekins, Associate Professor and Director of the Certificate in Professional Writing), “Study and Research Abroad” (presented by two visiting scholars, Dr Maximino Manzanera from University of Granada, Granada, Spain, and Andrea Sarquiz, a graduate student from Universidad de Quilmes, Buenos Aires, Argentina and by Dr. Ilya Akberdin, PostDoc at SDSU, formerly: Institute of Cytology and Genetics, Novosibirsk, Russia), “Being a Grad Student” (presented by two SDSU/UCSD graduate students, David Collins and Amanda Alker, a recent recipient of the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship), “Career in Biological Sciences: Biotech” (presented by Dr. David Nunn, Senior Director, Technology Analysis and Commercialization, Intrexon Corporation), “Intellectual Property: Basic Concepts” (presented by Kyle Welch, J.D. a Licensing Manager, SDSU Technology Transfer)  and “Bio-Math” (by Dr. Antoni Luque, Assistant Professor, SDSU Department of Mathematics & Statistics).
